ABOUT

Is IBD Mold Toxicity is a volunteer-led initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the potential link between mold toxicity and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s and Colitis.

Our mission is to educate about the health risks of mold exposure in genetically susceptible individuals and to support those affected in seeking appropriate testing, diagnosis, and treatment.

We are committed to advancing research on this critical but often overlooked connection. By partnering with scientists and clinicians, our goal is to launch clinical trials using existing therapies to explore how mold toxicity may act as a root cause in a subset of IBD cases.

If you suspect mold may be playing a role in your health or IBD diagnosis, we invite you to share your story using the link below.

Our Theory

tHEORY

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is often labeled as idiopathic, meaning it describes symptoms without identifying a root cause. The prevailing belief that IBD is autoimmune or caused by an overactive immune system lacks strong evidence. Despite this, many practitioners continue to overlook environmental drivers.

Research has focused heavily on suppressing adaptive immune responses, targeting infections, and correcting dysbiosis, but these efforts have not produced lasting cures. We believe the true origin of IBD lies in innate immune dysregulation. Until this upstream mechanism is addressed, treatments will continue to fall

"My daughter was living (unknown) in a water damaged building during her diagnosis. She was 15 at the time and she has Ulcerative Colitis. We just recently discovered the mold in our crawl space and under the carpet."

Anna

"I was diagnosed with severe UC (Ulcerative Colitis) after moving into a home with extreme mold. I had no previous digestive issues."

Laran

"My colitis flares every time I have a prolonged exposure to indoor mold and removing exposure is the only treatment that stabilizes my condition"

Alli

"I had always wondered if mold was involved as I was diagnosed with Crohn's after living for years in the dampest student housing ever, with the worst mold you've ever seen, mushrooms growing in the bathroom kind of bad."
